Classic Carders are based in Shropshire and create beautifully designed and affordable drum carders.

Quill:  Porcupine quills are perfectly suited for removing wool fibres from our carding drums. We do not recommend you use the doffer for this task as it does not fit between the pins and can weaken them – likewise the porcupine quill is not suitable for using as a batt opener.

Cleaning Brushing: This brush is used to remove fibres from both drums and can also be used to maximise the size of the batt.

 When there is a layer of fibre on the storage drum (large drum) hold it on top of the drum and push the fibres into the pins as you turn the handle.

This will improve the quality of the batt as it gives it a secondary carding.
