Sock Class: Vanilla is the New Black (Strong Heel)

Description: Learn an alternative heel construction that doesn’t involve a heel flap or picking up stitches! In this design, the gusset is cleverly hidden in the ribbed heel shaping, and the result is an attractive, reversible sock in Fingering to DK weight yarn. This pattern uses the Strong heel, which is particularly suitable for people with a high instep or people who tend to wear out their socks on the pad of the heel. It also is ideal for color-changing / self-striping yarns.

We will be starting at the beginning of the heel, so you will need to come to class with your cuff and leg completed. If you need help getting started on the leg, please sign up for the extra cast-on class.

It is recommended that you knit a shorty sock by skipping from the cuff to the heel, so you can spend your time where it matters most!

We will spend the first class working the heel shaping; the only homework will be finishing the heel. The second class will focus on the heel turn. We will have a couple weeks’ break to knit the foot, and we will meet up to work on the toe for the final class.
